ANY PERSON OR AGENCY may attend the Open Houses and/or make written representation prior to
the decision of Muskoka District Council, either in support of, or in opposition to, the proposed
Amendment.
EXPLANATION OF THE PURPOSE AND EFFECT OF
THE PROPOSED OFFICIAL PLAN AMENDMENT:
The purpose of the proposed Official Plan Amendment would be to provide an updated, simplified
and scientifically defensible policy set for the continued protection of Muskoka’s recreational water
quality.
In this regard, the effect of the Amendment would be to revise and update the existing
planning policies to guide development around lakes and rivers in a holistic manner by responding
to the findings of the Revised Water Quality Model and Lake System Health Program Final Report
by Hutchinson Environmental Sciences Limited (HESL) dated April, 2016.
This report provides
evidence based and outcome driven recommendations on how to protect water quality in the
watersheds of Muskoka in consideration of multiple environmental stressors and using the data
from the District’s water quality monitoring program.
